Do you sell the supplies to make flat & magnetic bookmarks at home?
Yes! We used to make flat bookmarks with our double sided photo paper (180gsm) and thermal lamination pouches. If you want something slightly thicker, swap out our 150 micron laminating pouches for some 250 micron laminating pouches, just ensure that your cutting machine can handle that thickness.
Materials
We make our magnetic bookmarks and used to make flat bookmarks with the same 180gsm double sided photo paper combined with our 150 micron thermal laminating pouches for the thickness and rigidity. The double sided glossy photo paper (180gsm) and RC Gloss (310gsm) are our only two photo papers that can withstand the heat from a thermal laminator and do not peel after lamination. You will however, need to wait 24 hours before laminating as damp photo paper will not stick to thermal laminate.
The pouches run through most thermal laminators. Trimming the 250 micron laminate needs a good cutting machine, or cutting by hand.
Thermal Laminating Pouches give Rigidity
Thermal lamination combined with our heat resistant photo papers is what makes a flat and magnetic bookmark stiff. Our self-adhesive laminating films are cold films applied with a squeegee, with no heat and no laminating machine. They protect a print but stay flexible and add no rigidity, so they are the wrong choice for a bookmark that has to stand up on its own and feel rigid.
Print, dry, laminate, then cut
Print first and let the ink dry before the sheet goes into the laminator. Allow longer for darker prints (up to 24 hours). Laminating photo paper while it is still damp lets the laminate peel away after cutting.
A good cutting machine cuts 150 micron laminate paired with the 180gsm paper. Use a few passes at a lighter force; we used 2 to 3 passes at 43 force on the Siser Juliet. Cut cleanly all the way through on every pass, because any part still caught on the mat or in the excess material pulls the laminate away from the paper with some force.
