How strong are your magnets?
Strong enough to grip through a laminated bookmark and hold pages confidently. Not so strong that you'll fight to open a bookmark or damage the paper.
The 2mm magnets are noticeably snappier than the 1mm when you close a bookmark around a page. You'll feel it immediately.
For fridge magnets, the 0.5mm magnetic sheet will hold lightweight paper, small notes and thin cards confidently. It is not strong enough to hold a heavy object like a photo frame.
