Customs and duties
Will I be charged import VAT or duties when my parcel arrives?
Where you pay depends on where the parcel is going. On the markets we ship duty-paid, everything is settled at checkout and there is nothing to pay when the parcel arrives. On the rest, the carrier collects import VAT or duty at the border before delivery.
United States
No import charges to pay when your parcel arrives. Tariffs and import duty are worked out and paid at checkout, so your order clears customs without you hearing from anyone.
Sales tax is a separate thing and we do not add it. We are a small UK workshop and our sales in any one state stay well below that state's registration threshold, the level where we would have to register to collect it. Depending on your state, sales or use tax may still be payable by you.
- Import duties & tariffs pre-paid at checkout
European Union
No import charges to pay when your parcel arrives. The import VAT is included in what you pay at checkout, so there is no customs bill, no handling fee and no parcel sitting at a depot waiting for payment. It comes straight to your door.
This site is built for customers buying for themselves. If you are a VAT-registered business in Europe and you want to reclaim the VAT, order through our Faire shop instead. Those orders go out with the import VAT unpaid, so it is charged to you at the border in your own company's name, which is what makes it reclaimable. Buy it here and the VAT is ours, not yours, so there is nothing for you to claim back.
- Import duties & VAT pre-paid at checkout (IOSS & DDP)
- EU B2B: VAT isnt claimable via our website
Australia & New Zealand
Nothing extra to pay at all. Orders our size do not attract duty or tax on the way in, so the price you see at checkout is the whole cost of getting it to you.
- Import duties & tariffs pre-paid at checkout
Canada
There will be something to pay, and we would rather you knew before you ordered than after. Canada charges on almost everything coming in, from around £11 ($20 CAD) upwards, so the courier will contact you and collect the duty and tax before delivering. We are not registered for GST just yet!
- Orders are shipped DDU (taxes & duties paid to the courier)
- The price at the checkout is shown without GST or duties.
Rest of the world
Everywhere else, the courier collects the import charges before they deliver, so there will be something to pay on arrival. Any local taxes, tariffs, duties will be collected by your local courier before they will deliver your package. We can often pre-pay the charges for you, which usually works out cheaper than the fee the courier adds for collecting them at the door. If you'd like to pre-pay duties, taxes and/or tariffs so that your package comes directly to you with no extra fees, please get in touch after you order!
- Orders are shipped DDU (taxes & duties paid to the courier)
- You may be able to upgrade to pre-pay import duties, taxes and tariffs by contact us after you place your order, we will search for a DDP courier, let you know the difference and send you a link for payment.
Rates and thresholds change, sometimes at short notice. Our shipping policy is where we keep the current detail for every country we ship to, and it is updated whenever the rules move.
